Chalet Igel...
This contemporary chalet for 12 (10 adults) is in a great location for year-round holidays in the Portes du Soleil ski area. Just 2km from the centre of Châtel, 3km from the pistes and ski school, it's also just 100m from the ski bus stop, which will whisk you to the lifts in minutes.
In the summer (July and August), there's a beautiful covered terrace and an outdoor heated pool, as well as table tennis and a trampoline in the garden for the children. As well as hiking and biking, you can also try a range of activities such as paragliding and climbing nearby. And when you just want to chill out and relax, you can take a dip in your own private heated pool on the sunny terrace.
Families with children will appreciate the garden equipment and the games room on the lower ground floor – as well as a TV, there are games consoles and table football.
Châtel has a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants, and there's an Intermarché supermarket less than 1km away for your basic shopping.
About the property...
Chalet Igel is a three-storey chalet with plenty of room for up to 12 guests in six bedrooms and four bathrooms.
When you arrive at Chalet Igel, you'll enter through the garage/ski room, which has plenty of storage for your ski equipment as well as a heated boot warmer.
You'll find two bedrooms on the lower ground floor – a bunk room and a room with two single beds – which share a bathroom. There's also a TV/games room with a games console and table football – older children will love to make this floor their own!
The main open-plan living area is on the ground floor. A cosy, three-sided sofa and chairs are the perfect place to relax in front of the fire and the TV. There's also a fully-equipped kitchen and a large dining table where you can all sit down and enjoy a meal together after a fun-packed day in the mountains. If you'd rather eat in the fresh air, there are doors onto a balcony and a covered terrace with a dining table and barbecue. A secure gate leads from here to the heated swimming pool (end of June to mid-September), which has a decked surround with sunbeds and a wonderful mountain view. You will also find a WC on the ground floor.
There are four more bedrooms on the first floor – a large king-size/twin room with an en-suite bathroom; a double room with an en-suite shower room, a great bunk room for children, and a double room. The last two rooms each have access to the balcony and share a bathroom.
Cyclists will appreciate the secure bike rack outside the chalet. There are several parking spaces outside, as well as a charging point for electric cars.
About the area...
Chalet Igel is set in a quiet location just 2km from the centre of the popular mountain resort of Châtel, which is part of the vast Portes du Soleil ski domain. The Super-Châtel/Barbossine, and Linga/Pré la Joux/Plaine Dranse sectors that surround the village have 41 ski lifts and 45 slopes, providing plenty of scope for all ages and abilities.
The village itself is still a traditional farming village, retaining its Savoyard architecture and character. But the growth in ski tourism means it now boasts some wonderful restaurants, both on and off the slopes. There's also a great aquatic centre, with spa facilities as well as indoor and outdoor pools, and a popular indoor play centre for younger children.
In the summer, there is a huge choice of trails for hikers and bikers, and those with a taste for adventure can try the Fantasticable – a zipwire which will have you hurtling between the mountains at up to 100kph.
There are plenty of places to explore around Châtel too – the picturesque medieval village of Yvoire, on the banks of Lake Geneva, is just an hour away and the beautiful Château de Chillon, near Montreux, is even closer.
The village is easily accessible from Geneva airport, either by car (about 90 minutes), train or bus. Or you could arrive in style by booking a helicopter transfer!

L'Igel is a lovely, well-equipped chalet. It is very pleasant and clean. The shuttle to the slopes or the city center is very close, which avoids having to take the car. We had a very pleasant stay, I highly recommend it.

“A Memorable Week in a Charming Chalet”
Spacious, charming, and clean chalet with comfortable beds. Fully equipped. The contact person was friendly, responded quickly, and repaired anything promptly if needed. The showers are a bit cramped due to sloped ceilings, and the separate shower is somewhat narrow. The living room was fully decorated for Christmas, including a fully lit Christmas tree, which was a lovely surprise. We were there with eight people and had a wonderful week.

Chalet Igel is a comfortable six-bedroom, four-bathroom chalet for 12 people, set over three floors. It's situated in the Portes du Soleil ski resort of Châtel, on the road to La Chapelle d'Abondance, and with the ski bus passing just 100m away, you've great access to a huge choice of skiing.
If you stay in the summer, you'll have your own private heated pool (end of June to mid-September) – just picture yourself cooling off in the water or sipping a drink on the sunbeds, as you admire the breathtaking view of the mountains!
There are four bedrooms on the top floor, two with en-suite bath or shower rooms, and two others with access to the balcony. There are two more bedrooms – a bunk room and one with two single beds – on the lower ground floor, along with a games/TV room and a bath room. You may only see them at meal times!
Older children and teenagers will be thrilled to have their own space down here, where they can watch a film or play a game of table football.
Chalet Igel also has a good-sized garden with a trampoline and table-tennis table – there's so much to do here for children!

Guillaume is a winter snow addict, Nicole fell in love with summer in the mountains – and Châtel offers the best of both worlds: it's at the heart of the Portes du Soleil, one of the largest ski domain in the world, with so much to do in summer too!
We love Chalet Igel for the ease of getting to the different Châtel ski lifts, the cross-country ski pistes are just down the road, there's road biking, mountain biking, downhill biking. We also love dragging our two kids on long hikes with magnificent views! We are close enough to town and the slopes, but far enough to have a tranquil location.
Chalet Igel is big enough inside for several families, but there's also a big garden and of course, a pool!
